Handwritten letter from Corporal Archie Lindsey in the Philippines to his wife, Edna Lindsey. The letter was not dated, but the envelope it was sent in was postmarked on March 6, 1945. The letter is four pages; the last page has a section that was removed by an army censor. In the letter, Archie discusses the population of the Philippines, how they have are living and how they have been treated by the Japanese military, the U.S. Army building roads, use of the water buffalo to carry supplies to troops in isolated locations and to carry wounded soldiers, the friendly treatment of the U.S. Army by the guerrilla soldiers, and digging fox holes. |
