Description |
Unused color photo postcard of a coal mine pit at Eagle Butte Mine in Campbell County, WY. Captioned on the back "190 ton capacity tailgated truck is hauling coal to the coal processing plant. From the backfill side of the pit the distant cut side shows the typical benches of a truck shovel operation. Each bench or step has dirt or coal removed from it. The coal is shipped and the overburden is placed on the backfill benches. The coal mine's pit two toe to toe sets of stairs (cut and backfill benches) slowly move across the prairie at about 1,000 feet per year for a pit 4,000 feet wide with 120 feet of coal producing at 18 millions tons per year." Part of a set of postcards: "Postcard Coal Mining Equipment Collector Series A." # 9 of 18. |
