Description |
Photo 6 in a series of 6 color photos depicting the process of well servicing. Notes included with the photos explain that "Well servicing converts and oil well (or pump well) to a water well" and "Well servicing prepares a well for water flooding, a relatively inexpensive method of producing oil which dates from the 1870s. Water flooding displaces oil from subsurface rock formation. Joseph Dunbar, owner of Dunbar Well Service, compares water flooding to 'shaking up a can of soda pop.' Gas in the oil expands when water is forced into subsurface rock formations, displacing the oil so that it can be pumped to the surface." |
