Description |
Jaw harp, possibly iron or steel. This is a musical instrument played in the mouth. One end of the harp is formed by 7 crescent shapes that alternate between pointing outwards and pointing inwards, forming an almost triangular shape. The two bottom crescents on the left and right sides extend downwards into two parallel straight bars with 5 horizontal notches for decoration. One of the straight parallel bars is engraved "MADE IN" and the other bar is engraved "ENGLAND." A thin piece of metal (the reed or tongue) is attached to the back of the upper, center crescent. This piece runs straight down the center, between the two parallel bars, and then arches upward between the bars before curving back downwards at an almost 90 degree angle; the end of the metal strip is bent backward, forming a small hook on the end. |
